This map shows predicted contrail formation zones across Australia based on GraphCast ML weather model forecasts.

  • Green zones: Atmospheric conditions prevent contrail formation
  • Yellow zones: Short-lived contrails may form but dissipate quickly
  • Red zones: Persistent contrails likely due to ice supersaturation

Scientific basis: Schmidt-Appleman criterion (temperature threshold) + ice supersaturation (RHi > 100%)

Data source: GraphCast ML weather model (Google DeepMind)
